Nos situamos a mediados del siglo XX. Se trata de la Congregación de Ermitaños de San Pablo en el Desierto de Ntra. Sra. de Belén, en la sierra de la ciudad de Córdoba con muchos siglos de historia.
Los ermitaños instalaron un molino de aceite para ganarse su propio sustento y así evitar salir a los pueblos para hacer las póstulas y al mismo tiempo poder dar de comer a todos los pobres, que desde la capital subían hasta el eremitorio pidiendo remedio para su hambre.
La dedicación a tareas económicas y el trato permanente con seglares llevó a los ermitaños a la relajación y pérdida del espíritu contemplativo.
Estas circunstancias fueron conocidas por los cordobeses y requirieron la actuación del Obispo, quien envió un capellán al Desierto para conocer directamente cómo vivían los miembros retirados en aquel lugar. Recibida una información exhaustiva, el Obispo determinó la expulsión de los responsables del mal introducido y posteriormente, consultada la Santa Sede, disolvió la Congregación de Ermitaños de San Pablo e hizo entrega del Desierto de Ntra. Sra. de Belén a los Padres Carmelitas Descalzos.

We are situated in the middle of the twentieth century. It is about the community of monks of st.Paul which is a community of hermits who live in the Desert of Our Lady of Bethlehem, in the mountain range of the city of Córdoba, this community has a history which stretches over many centuries.
The hermits built an oil mill to sustain their way of live without being dependent on donations from the neighbouring villages and at the same time being able to provide for the poor who would come up to the hermitage from Córdoba asking for food.
The necessary dedication to the economic demands resulted in relaxation in the spiritual life and the loss of the contemplative spirit. These circumstances were known to the cordobesian people and required the intervention of the bishop who sent a chaplain to the desert to hear directly how the retired members lived in that place. After receiving a complete report from the chaplain, the bishop ordered the expulsion of the responsible and subsequently, after consulting the Holy See, dissolved the Congregation of st. Paul 's Hermits and gave Our Lady from Bethlehem's Desert to the Discalced Carmelite Fathers.
