    This article presents a critical review of the literature about violence in the sporting context. This kind of violence is nowadays a serious social problem. We consider that the violence is not something that constitutes the human beings, but it is produced and reproduced through actions of men and women, so, it is a phenomenon originated on social, historical and cultural processes. There are many events of physical violence that smear sports, especially in soccer games, where we see aggressions among players and supporters and the sporting fanaticism. However, this article is focused in a kind of violence that usually is not noticed by people, the gender violence against women in the sporting context. This one is a silent kind of violence that discriminates, excludes and brands women athletes. In some cases, this violence can become and obstacle and an impediment for the participation and progress of the athlete in any sporting field. So, the gender violence against women in sports can be considered a way of domination created and ratified by the patriarchal system, reflecting the relationships of domination and oppression of our society. These relationships are the ones that transform the social, economical and political inequalities in exclusion. Finally, this violence implicates in an unhealthy development of the whole society and also becomes a problem of public health. This review analyses the topic aiming to rouse the curiosity and interest of readers to the new scientific production related to this topic, taking in consideration the lack of sapience of the productions about this subject.

    O presente artigo apresenta uma revisão crítica de literatura sobre a violência no contexto esportivo. As violências no contexto esportivo se apresentam hoje, como um grave problema social. Enfocamos a violência como algo que não faz parte da natureza humana do ser humano, e sim ela é produzida e reproduzida através das ações de homens e mulheres, portanto um fenômeno gerado nos processos sociais, históricos e culturais. Muitos são os episódios de violência física que mancham os esportes, em especial no futebol, agressões entre os jogadores, a violência nas torcidas organizadas, o fanatismo esportivo, entre outros. Mas o foco principal deste artigo é abordar um tipo de violência, que ainda hoje passa muitas vezes desapercebido pela maioria das pessoas, é a violência de gênero contra mulher no contexto esportivo. Este é um tipo de violência, silenciosa, que discrimina, excluí e estigmatiza as mulheres atletas. Essa violência, em alguns casos pode se transformar em obstáculos e impedimentos para a participação e progressão da atleta em qualquer terreno esportivo. Deste modo a violência de gênero contra a mulher no esporte, pode ser considerada como um instrumento de poder criado e ratificado pelo sistema patriarcal, uma vez que as assimetrias sociais refletem as relações de dominação e opressão que transformam as desigualdades sociais, econômicas, políticas, em exclusão. Sendo assim essa violência compromete o desenvolvimento saudável da sociedade como um todo e se transforma em um problema também de saúde pública. Esta revisão analisa o assunto procurando despertar à curiosidade e o interesse dos leitores para a produção científica de novos trabalhos relacionados ao tema, visto a insipiência de publicações na área.
