Fundado a finales de la década de 1960, el Istituto Ernesto de Martino �aunque todavía sospechoso entre los investigadores académicos y la burocracia� es aun el más importante archivo de historia oral de Italia y quizás de Europa Occidental. Incluye música folk, historia oral y acontecimientos de importancia política (manifestaciones, concentraciones, reuniones); en este momento la colección alberga más de 6.000 cintas y 16.000 horas de grabación. El artículo se centra en particular en la historia y en la situación actual del Circolo Gianni Bosio, la rama local independiente del Istituto de Martino en Roma.

Founded in the late 1960s the Istituto Ernesto de Martino -although still suspicious for the academic scholarship and the bureaucracy' still is the most important oral archive in Italy and perhaps in Western Europe. Including folk music, oral history, and events of political significance (demonstrations, rallies, meetings); at this point, the collection holds over 6.000 tapes and 16.000 recorded hours. The essay focuses in particular on the history and current situation of the Circolo Gianni Bosio, the independent local branch of the Istituto de Martino in Rome.
