Intégration euro-atlantique et géopolitique traditionnelle: le cas de la Bulgarie

    After the fall of the communist regime in1989, the politics in Bulgaria was marked,on one hand, by the new international state of affairs in Europe generally dominated by the Euro-Atlantic tendencies, and on the other hand by the continuous influence of the traditional geopolitics models. Each of the expansions has contributed to the geopolitical diversity of the Union. When Bulgaria and Romania joined the EU in 2007, it brought the borders to the Black Sea. In such a context, Bulgaria barely had any political or territorial issue with the states of Eastern Europe, especially Russia,but on the contrary had great cultural and historical affinities with this country, which could allow Bulgaria to follow balanced geopolitics within the Euro-Atlantic community. Besides, Bulgaria could play a role in the setting-up and realization of the European politics towards Turkey, due to the fact that there is a Turkish minority on its territory and that there are good relations between that minority and the rest of the Bulgarian Orthodox society.

    La politique de la Bulgarie après la chute du régime communiste en 1989 a été marquée, d’une part, par la nouvelle donne internationale en Europe, généralement dominée par les tendances de l’intégration euroatlantique, et, d’autre part, par l’influence continue des modèles géopolitiques traditionnels. Chacun des élargissements a contribué àla diversité géopolitique de l’Union. L’adhésion de la Bulgarie et de la Roumanie à l’UE en 2007 a porté ses frontières jusqu’à la mer Noire. Dans un tel contexte, la Bulgarien’ayant pratiquement pas de différend politique ou territorial avec les États de l’Europe de l’Est, en l’occurrence la Russie, mais aucontraire ayant des affinités culturelles ethistoriques considérables avec cette dernière, cela pourrait lui permettre d’avoir une attitude géopolitique équilibrée au sein de la communauté euro-atlantique. En outre, la Bulgarie pourrait jouer un rôle dans la mise en place et la réalisation de la politique européenne envers la Turquie du fait de la présence d’une minorité turque sur son territoire et des bonnes relations que celle-cientretient avec le reste de la société orthodoxe bulgare.
