  • Resumen
    • In this article we establish the present relation between Textual Linguistes and traditional. Sentence Linguistics. We stress that Textual Linguistics is not only possible and perfectly legitimate, but also indispensable for the elaboration of a complete theory of discourse, since the text is as perfectly acceptable a unit as is the sentence, since both of these theoretical devices are based on undeniable linguistic phenomena. Of course, the definition of text carries numerous problems, but in this article we demonstrate that these problems are no different from those we find when defining other, such traditional units as sentence or syntagm. We also discuss the most urgent tasks that Textual Linguistics must undertake, with special attention ¿given the author's wider experience in this particular field¿ to those referring to Textual Linguistics' application to the analysis and typology of literary texts.
