Resumen de Cultivares de peras injertadas en diferentes patrones de membrillos en región subtropical

Rafael Pio, Wilson Barbosa, Edvan Alves Chagas, F.A. Campo Dall'Orto, M. Ojima, Orlando Rigitano

  • The search for pear cultivar in subtropical areas is intensifying in Brazil, however, the information is still scarce. Besides, there is a lack of information about the behavior of rustic pear trees on quince rootstock. Thus, the present work was carried out to aim of verifying the behavior of some pear tree cultivars adapted to subtropical climate on different quince tree rootstocks. Three pear tree selections were grafted (IAC 16-28 'Seleta', IAC 9-3 'Primorosa' and IAC 16-33 'Culinária') on root cuttings of four quince tree cultivars ('Portugal', 'Cheldow', 'Champion' and 'Mendoza Inta-37'), which were taken to the field at the spacing 4.0 x 2.0 m, in area of mild winter (medium temperature around 21°C and units of cold about of 90 hours). Experimental design was in blocks with five replications and three plants per plot. After five years of the plantation, it was evaluated the number of fruits, average fruit weight, fruit production and productivity. Trees presented a very similar behavior, 'Primorosa' stood out among the others, mainly in production and productivity traits. Concerning the rootstock for 'Primorosa' cultivar, it was recommended 'Champion' and 'Mendoza Inta-37' and for 'Culinária' cultivar it was recommended 'Mendoza Inta-37' quince. In the case of 'Seleta' pear tree, additional studies of rootstock selection for subtropical areas should be undertaken, since it was not obtained good productive results for that cultivar in all the rootstocks tested.
