    Los ingleses desembarcaron en la playa de Manila el día 23 de septiembre de 1762, después de un cañoneo que duró 11 días entraron por asalto en Manila y la ciudad capituló. Pero antes había salido de Manila el más moderno de los oidores de la Real Audiencia con la misión de mantener a los indios en obediencia al Rey. Al recibir la noticia de que los ingleses habían entrado en Manila y apresado al gobernador y a la Real Audiencia, decidió que en él, único representante del Rey en libertad, había recaído toda su autoridad, por lo que tomó el mando y siguió la lucha contra los ingleses.

    A British force landed on Manila beach on the 23rd September 1762, after 11 days of bombardment entered the city by assault, the city surrendered. Some days before, the junior «oidor» of the Real Audiencia had left the city to ensure that the «indians» remained under the sovereignty of the King of Spain. On receiving the news of the taking of Manila by the British, and the making prisoners of war of the governor and the Real Audiencia, he decided that he was the only official that represented the King, and so assumed all the powers and continued the war against the British.
