El tema tratado en este artículo tiene como objetivo facilitar una información útil a los Diplomados en Turismo que terminan sus estudios, a fin de orientar sus primeros pasos en la actividad profesional a la que han decidido dedicarse.Una actividad, la turística, atractiva y moderna, con unos valores indiscutibles y una recono-cida importancia económica. Pero, al mismo tiempo, se trata de una actividad que reviste un alto grado de complejidad y está experimentando actualmente profundas transformaciones. En este contexto general, España se encuentra, además, en el momento de afrontar el cambio de modelo turístico, proceso en el que los profesionales del turismo juegan un papel fundamental.Basado en estas ideas, el trabajo se inicia con una introducción que recoge el significado y características del turismo. A continuación, se tratan las diferentes facetas profesionales que ofrece la actividad turística, tanto en el ámbito empresarial, como en el de las administra-ciones públicas y las organizaciones internacionales, sin olvidar los campos de la docencia y la investigación, o el mundo asociativo y solidario.

Te aim of this article is to provide useful information for the Graduate in Tourism who have finished their studies, in order to guide their first steps in the professional activity they have decided to perform. The tourist activity is attractive and modern, with unquestionable values and a recognized economical importance. At the same time, the tourist activity have a high level of complexity and is now experiencing deep changes. In this general context, Spain is also in a stage of facing its tourist model, process in which the tourism professionals have a fundamental role. Based on these ideas, the article starts with a preface that refers to the significance and characteristics of tourism. Then the different professional facets of the tourist activity are treated: the enterprises field, as well as the field of public administrations and international organizations, without forgetting the teaching and researching activities, or the associative and solidarity world.
