Resumen de San Patricio y los irlandeses: el descubrimiento de una escultura

El estudio de una talla de madera puede llevar en ocasiones al mejor conocimiento de la relación que haya podido existir entre Canarias y otros lugares como Génova. Frecuente también fue que afamados artistas genoveses se instalaran en la ciudad de Cádiz, abriendo talleres y trabajando en obras solicitadas por la Iglesia y sus cofradías. Este hecho no se dio en las islas pero sí se recibieron importantes aportaciones del arte genovés de aquel momento.
Algunas de estas piezas escultóricas pudieron haber llegado desde la citada ciudad andaluza.
En otro orden de cosas interesa el análisis de la presencia de irlandeses en la isla de Tenerife, desde la cual desarrollan una intensa actividad comercial. En el caso concreto que el presente trabajo plantea, familias irlandesas establecidas en el Puerto de la Cruz comisionan una imagen religiosa genovesa que guarda el estilo de conocidos artistas italianos y a causa de un rápido deterioro ha permanecido desaparecida hasta nuestros días.
Juntos, irlandeses y genoveses vivieron en las islas Canarias la arriesgada aventura del Comercio Atlántico.

Sometimes the investigation on a wood carving can evidence the important relationship among the Canary Islands and some other places like Genoa. It was also common for very well known Genoese artists to travel to Cadiz in the mainland wher e they opened their workshops and worked for the Church and its confraternities there. This fact did not occur on the islands but many examples from the eighteenth century Genoese art were sent to Canary churches from the Andalusian city.
On the other hand the Irish presence in Tenerife with its prosperous commercial activity created on the island has been definitely crucial in this case since they acquired an interesting piece of art which is an example of the 18th century Genoese style —close to famous Italian sculptors— and has remained missing till nowadays. It was presumably retired due to its bad conditions.
Both Irish and Genoese families lived together in the Canaries the adventurous experience of the Atlantic Trade.
