    L'économie cubaine se trouve plongée dans un important processus de réformes structurelles. Elle a subí cette derniére décennie un double ajustement : d'une part, l'adaptation il une brusque contraction des revenus externes suite a la disparition du bloc socialiste européen et au renforcement de !'embargo nord-américain; d'autre part, l'introduction de mécanismes du marché dans un systéme centralisé, la dépénalisation de la possession de dollars, etc. Si ces réformes ont débouché il partir du milieu des années 1990 sur un début de récupération économique, elles ont aussi eu des coüts sociaux, dans des proportions cependant nettement moindres qu 'ailleurs en Amérique latine ou ne prévaut pas le modele d'équité toujours a l'oeuvre a Cuba

    The Cuban economy is undergoing a fundamental process of structural reform. During the last decade it underwent a double adjustment :

    adapting to a sudden drying up of externa! revenue, following the collapse ofthe European socialist bloc anda reinforcement ofthe North American embargo, and the introduction of market mechanisms into a centralized system and the decriminalization of do llar holdings, etc. As from the mid-nineties, these reforms have resulted in a reviva! of the economy, but there have also been social costs - although much less than elsewhere in Latin America where the principie of equality does not prevail as it still does in Cuba.
