    Sorne months after the damages created by Hurricane Mitch, is it not reasonable still to hope - as so many individuals and organizations have been doing - that this disaster could be put to good use to construct more just societies? One may doubt it, as far as Honduras is con cerned, for the funds received from the intemational community are being spent on the reconstruction ofinfrastructure: they are not aimed at meeting the real needs ofthe disaster-stricken populations. It mainly benefits the banana transnationals who have no qualms in exploiting the situation to undermine the rights of workers. Thus greater transparency and more involvement of civil society in deciding the allocation ofthese funds are more than ever necessary

    A quelques mois des ravages causés par l'ouragan Mitch, est-il encore raisonnable de penser, comme tant de personnes et organisations I 'ont souhaité, que ce désastre pourrait etre mis a profit pour construire des sociétés plus justes? Dans le cas du Honduras, on peut se permettre d 'en douter, car les fonds rerçus de la communauté internationale, orientés vers la reconstruction des infrastructures et non pas destinés a répondre aux besoins réels des populations sinistrées, bénéficient avant tout aux transnationales bananieres, quin 'hésitent d 'ailleurs pas a profiter de la situation, pour saper les droits des travailleurs. Une meilleure transparence et une plus grande implication de la société civile dans l'attribution de ces fonds sont done plus quejamais nécessaires.
