    El presente artículo explora el significado de la perspectiva moral de David Hume en torno al problema de las posibilidades y las condiciones del reconocimiento del otro en el seno de las sociedades plurales. Propone como tesis la construcción imaginativa del otro como recurso para entablar lazos de solidaridad que respondan a las exigencias de una convivencia tolerante y del desarrollo moral de los individuos e instituciones. Se desarrolla en tres momentos. En el primero, especifica el contexto y el caracter de la investigación moral de Hume. En el segundo, se acerca al principio operativo de la mente, la simpatía, como fuente principal de las distinciones morales. Por último, muestra cómo la simpatía, figura de la imaginación en el plano moral, construye de manera estética y recíproca al otro.

    This paper explores the significance of Hume's moral viewpoint regarding the problem of the possibilities and conditions under which the other is recognized within plural societies. It proposes the following thesis: that the imaginative construction of the other is the way to establish links of solidarity necessary to a tolerant way of living and the moral development of men and institutions. It is displayed in three moments. First it specifies tne context and character of Hume's moral inquiry. Secondly it approaches the operativa principie of the mind, simpathy, as the main source of moral distinctions. And lastly, it shows how simpathy, the imaginative figure in moral, constnicts, in a aesthetic and reciprocal way, the other.
