Cuando en 1769 los obispos españoles fueron requeridos en nombre de Carlos III para dar su parecer acerca de la extinción de la Compañía de Jesús, éstos no dejaron de referirse a la labor jesuita en Extremo Oriente. La cuestión de los ritos chinos y malabares contra su atención, y destacan las acusaciones de desobediencia e idolatría, pero también reprochan a los misioneros jesuitas su comportamiento elitista, sus complejas actividades comerciales, su ilícita participación en materias de estado, y su hostigamiento a elevados eclesiásticos y otros misioneros.

In 1769, when the Spanish prelates where required in the name of Charles III to give their opinion about the abolition of the Company of Jesus, almost all of them made reference to the Jesuit labor in the Far East. They focused on the Chinese and Malabar rites question, emphasizing the accusations of disobedience and idolatry, but they also reproached the Jesuit missionaries for their elitist behaviour, their commercial activities, their illicit participation in politics, and their persecution on ecclesiastic authorities and the other missionaries.
