Tras las expectativas racionales: ¿qué queda de la política económica?

    A lo largo de estos últimos 30 años se han ido sucediendo apasionantes y controvertidas ideas en el ámbito de la teoría económica. Cada enfoque que surgía parecía exigir que se cambiara el modo de concebir, enseñar y aplicar la macroeconomía. En más de un caso,los datos empíricos no avalaron estas pretensiones, pero la influencia tanto al nivel de investigación como al de la política económica ha sido enorme. Los distintos modelos han llegado a conclusiones radicalmente diferentes, sino opuestas, en especial sobre la posibilidad y eficacia de la política monetaria. Con todo, un cierto consenso se ha alcanzado: recalcar la necesidad de la coherencia entre la teoría macroeconómica y la microeconómica. En este artículo se pretende exponer con sencillez las aportaciones más significativas en estos últimos 30 años en teoría macroeconómica resaltando el contexto en el que surge y sus implicaciones para la política económica.

    Over the last thirty years, many new passionate and controversial ideas in the field of economic theory have arisen. Each new focus that arises seems to demand that we change the manner in which we conceive of, teach and apply macro-economy. In more than one case, the empirical data does not lend weight to these pretensions, but the influence both in investigation as well as on political economy has been enormous. The different models have reached radically different and opposite conclusions, above all are the possibility and effectiveness of monetary policy. With all this, a certain consensus has been reached: to emphasise the need for coherence between macro-economic and micro-economic theory. This article we will try to explain in a simple way the most significant contributions of macro-economic theory over the last thirty years, looking at the context in which it arose and the implications for political economy.
