    La explicación que ofrece Descartes sobre el error en la "Cuarta meditación", da pie para que Spinoza señale de manera subrepticia cómo se introduce la consideración del libre albedrío en el análisis de la acción humana. Se muestra la inversión que sufrió este problema en la discusión entre Erasmo y Lutero, así como el sentido y los límites de su negación en la propuesta alternativa de Spinoza.
