    Tras un rápido repaso por la definición, historia y últimas tendencias de la sociología de la música, la comunicación trata de plantear el reto fundamental que se presenta en este campo para el futuro ¿Debemos conformarnos con que la sociología musical y la musicología histórica se desarrollen aisladamente? ¿Es posible la confluencia de ambas disciplinas desde sus actuales premisas teóricas? El autor defenderá la posibilidad y necesidad de este acercamiento, reconociendo su dificultad, y tratará de establecer las bases para el diálogo.

    After a brief overview of the definition, history and new trends in the Sociology of Music, this paper will focus the main challenge in the future of this field: Are we forced to accept the separate development of the Sociology of Music and the Historical Musicology? Is it possible the confluence of both after their current theoretical premises? The author, while acknowledging the difficulties, will defend the possibility and necessity of this approach, and will try to lay the foundations of this dialogue.
