The historical origins of both Hypothesis of the land-bridges and the Principle of Isostasy are analysed. The acceptance of the latter made impossible the existence of the land connections, these have been, however, deep-rooted until well on into the twentieth century. On the other hand, some didactic considerations specially in relation to the development of continental drift are done.
