Poétique du "mythe" dans la littérature grecque: Hélène, Nèrodote et la pragmatique de l'historiographie

    "A myth is perceived as a myth by any reader in the whole world" says Claude Lévi-Strauss (Anthropologie structurale, Paris, Plon, 1958, p. 232). Generally considered as an universal category, the myth is actually a notion born in the anthropological thought of the European XVIIIth century. It has no exact counterpart in Greek culture although it draws its name from the Greek language. The Greeks believed in their mûthoi, and they were used to modify constantly their tradition in relationship with the pragmatics of the poetical and literary genre in which they were sung or told. This phenomenon of retelling is to be shown studying the strange version of the Trojan war Herodotus puts in the mouth of the priests of Egypt in order to present this story to his Greek audience. Invitation to an analysis of discourse centered on the processes of utterance.

    "Un mythe est perçu comme mythe par tout lecteur dans le monde entier" affirme Claude Lévi-Strauss (Anthropologie structurale; Paris, Plon, 1952, p. 232). Généralement considéré comme une catégorie universelle, le mythe s'avère être un concept né dans la pensée anthropologique du XVIIIe siecle européen. Il n'a pas de correspondant exact dans la culture grecque dont il tire pourtant son nom. Non seulement les Grecs croyaient à leurs mûthoi, mais ils en modifiaient constamment la tradition en relation avec la fonction pragmatique du genre poétique et littéraire qui présentait ces récits a leurs destinataires institutionnels. C'est ce que l'on aimerait montrer en suivant le développement de l'étrange version de la guerre de Troie qu'Hérodote place dans la bouche des prêtres d'Égypte pour l'offrir à son public hellène.
