    El trabajo analiza las circunstancias políticas que rodearon a la publicación de las actas del Tercer Concilio Provincial Mexicano y a los esfuerzos hechos por el episcopado para conseguir su distribución y su observancia en la Nueva España. Se muestra como se trató de un proceso que se entrelazó íntimamente con el proyecto de secularización de las parroquias a cargo del clero regular y como las acciones del episcopado ¿tanto para la secularización como para la publicación, distribución y observancia del texto conciliar¿ estuvieron en todo momento mediadas por las circunstancias políticas y, sobre todo, por el patronato real.

    Así, se afirma que la iglesia novohispana no gozó de la autonomía jurisdiccional que le concedía la legislación conciliar, pues en todo momento la observancia del concilio de Trento al igual que la suerte del Mexicano estuvieron determinadas por el patronato e insertas en el largo proceso histórico de reestructuración jerárquica de la Iglesia Indiana.

    This work analyzes the political circumstances that surrounded the printing of the acts of the third mexican provincial council and the efforts made by the episcopate in order to achieve its distribution and observance in New Spain. It is demonstrated that it was a process intimately intertwined with the project of secularization of parishes into the hands of secular clergy and how the actions of the episcopate ¿in as much the secularization, as in the printing, distribution and observance of the council text¿ were in every moment linked to political circumstances and, above all, to the Royal Patronage.

    Thus, it is affirmed that the New Spain Church never had the jurisdictional autonomy that was supposedly granted by the council legislation because the Council of Trent dispositions never were duly obeyed, as that of the Mexican Council, and were determined by the royal Patronage and comprehended in the long historical process of hierarchical restoration of the Colonial Church.
