El presente estudio analiza el difícil tema de la así llamada actitud negativa de Juan hacia los judíos. Después de mencionar diferentes aproximaciones a ese problema, se investiga el vocabulario de Juan al referirse a los judíos, a sus antepasados y a las instituciones judías. Se mencionan veinte términos diferentes utilizados en los evangelios sinópticos y en los escritos de Juan antes de estudiar algunos de ellos en forma detallada. Entre ellos están los términos "judíos", "Israel", "multitud", "sumosacerdotes", "gobernantes" y "fariseos" en el Evangelio de Juan y el término "judíos" en el Apocalipsis. El cuadro que emerge muestra ser mucho más equilibrado que podría parecer a primera vista. En Juan no existe una condenación generalizada de los judíos. En su lugar, Juan destaca una comunidad mesiánica compuesta tanto por los judíos como por todos los que eligen creer en el Mesías.

The article addresses the controversial subject of John's so-called negative attitude towards the Jews. After mentioning different approaches to the problem, the vocabulary employed by John pointing to Jews, their ancestors, and Jewish institutions is investigated. The occurrence of twenty different terms used in the Synoptic Gospels and the Johannine literature is mentioned before some of them are studied in detail. These include the terms "Jews", "Israel", "crowd", "chief priests", "rulers", and "Pharisees" in the Gospel of John and the term "Jews" in the Apocalypse. The picture that emerges is much more balanced than may appear at first glance. There is no wholesale condemnation of the Jews in John. Instead John points to a Messianic community consisting of Jews and all those who choose to believe in the Messiah.
