Resumen de Presencia de Scapanorhynchus raphyodon ( Agassiz), en el turoniense Inferior de Picofrentes ( Cordillera ibérica septentrional, Soria, España)

Carlos Pascual Arribas

  • Picofrentes is one of the most important reference sections for the Cenomanian -Turonian, in the Northern Iberian R ange, characterized by the presence of an abundant marine fossil content, notably ammonites. A single, isolated specimen of shark tooth shark belonging to the species Scapanorhinchus raphyodon (Agassiz) has been found for the first time in this area. This species, common in other places during this stratigraphic interval, lived in marine waters of open continental platforms as do its recent descendants (Mitsukurina owstoni, Jordan).
