  • This article presents the fluctuating political and economic relations between Great Britain and Spain during the 18th Century, based on British traveller's reports about their experiences in Spain, and at the same time on British diplomatic and consular reports extant in the Public Record Office in London. During Fernando VI's reign, British interest centered upon his naval programme of expansion, while during Charles III's reign, British interests were centered on the King's relationship with the aristocracy and, especially, the role of the Catholic Church and the Jesuits, in Spain and the American Colonies.
