  • The 'cirque' of La Safor lies 3km SW of Villalonga (Valencia) in the limestones and dolomites of the north slope of the Serra de la Safor. It measures 2km x 2.5km x some 800m in height. The processes of karstification and subterranean water discharge and solution, plus vertical erosion by the Rio Serpis, have produced instability, the sliding of rock masses over the sandy marls of the Oliva formation, and their subsequent removal by the Rio Serpis. -John Naylon
