    Un vivo debate sobre los orígenes y la estética del calipso ocupó la atención de los investigadores, de los expertos y de otros aficionados a partir de un artículo que apareció en el Trinidad Guardian el 21 de enero de 1940 (Rohlehr 1990: 383-391). Algunos postulan como origen fuentes africanas, otras fuentes francesas e hispanas; otros todavía postulan que hubo una armonización caribeña y trinitaria única del mismo. El propósito de este trabajo no es revivir ese debate, o escudriñar en la competencia y en los ocasionales reclamos exclusivos, las exigencias de las tareas a cumplir requieren un reconocimiento de los primeros estudios sobre la contribución hispánica al calipso

    An upset debate on the origins and the aesthetics of the calypso occupied the attention of the investigators, of the experts and of other fans due to an article that appeared in the Trinidad Guardian on January 21, 1940 (Rohlehr 1990: 383-391). Some propose african sources as origin of the calypso. Others establish french sources and hispanic; other they still postulate that there was a caribbean and trinitarian harmonization, that which is exclusive of the calypso. The purpose of this work is not torevive that debate, or to examine in the competition and in the occasional birdcalls, but carrying out a recognition of the first studies on the hispanic contribution to the calypso
