Quatre anys i mig després de la primera presa de possessió, Jan Peter Balkenende ha tornat a ser el guanyador de les eleccions celebrades recentment als Països Baixos. Al capdavant de l'Acord Democratacristià (CDA), ha vist renovada la confiança del poble neerlandès després d'una moguda legislatura en qué les questions relatives a la identitat i la immigració han estat al centre del debat politic. Gràcies als excellents resultats d'una serena política económica i a la feblesa d'una oposició populista, Balkenende continua encapçalant les preferències per formar govern, malgrat que els resultats no li ho han posat fàcil. Els electors han premiat també aquelles forces politiques amb un perfil més marcat, com ara el Partit Socialista o la Unió Cristiana, i el parlament continua estant força fragmentat, amb deu forces politiques que es reparteixen els 150 estons que el componen. Caldrà veure, a partir d'aquí, com el CDA aconsegueix construir una majoria suficient per a governar de manera estable.

Four and a half years after coming into power for the first time, once again Jan Peter Balkenende won the elections held recently in the Netherlands. Heading the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), he has renewed the confidence of the Dutch people, after a difficult legislature where questions on identity and immigration polarised the political debate. Supported by the excellent results of a serene economic policy and the weakness of a populist opposition, Balkenende continues to head preferences to form a government, although the results have not made things easy for him. The voters have also backed political formations with a more accentuated profile, such as the Socialist Party or the Christian Union, and the Chamber is still highly fragmented, with ten political formations accounting for the 150 seats at stake. As of now, it remains to be seen how the CDA will manage to build a sufficient majority to govern stably.
