• We study necessary and sufficient conditions for an accretive operator which satisfies the range condition to have a zero. We obtain, in particular, a characterization of this property for m-accretive operators in L1. We also study the asymptotic behavior of nonexpansive semigroups in L1 and then apply our results to certain initial value problems.
