    En este artículo se presenta un análisis sobre la composición familiar y la estructura ocupacional de la población de origen español de Jalapa de la Feria en 1791, realizado a partir del padrón de españoles, castizos y mestizos incluido en el censo militar levantado por órdenes del virrey Revillagigedo. Además de contribuir al estudio de las calidades sociales novohispanas, este artículo tiene como segundo objetivo proponer que se revise la idea que ha prevalecido en la historiografía acerca del estancamiento económico en el que cayó Jalapa tras la última feria de comercio exterior realizada en 1778, y añade que en el tránsito del siglo XVIII al XIX la economía jalapeña se recuperó gracias a la producción de azúcar y al fomento de las manufacturas.

    This article presents an analysis of the family composition and occupational structure of the population of Spanish origins in Jalapa de la Feria in 1791, carried out using the registry of the Spanish, castizo and mestizo population included in the military census ordered by the Viceroy Revillagigedo. In addition of contributing to the study of the social quality of New Spain, this article has the secondary objective of reconsidering the prevailing idea in the field of historiography regarding the economic stagnation that affected Jalapa after the last foreign trade fair, carried out in 1778. In this article, the authoress proposes that in the transition between the XVIII and XIX centuries, the economy of Jalapa recovered due to the production of sugar and the promotion of manufacturing.
