    El trabajo, luego de ilustrar sucintamente el sistema de la administración decimal seguido por la catedral metropolitana durante el siglo XVII, plantea cómo diversos factores de orden político incidían directamente en los métodos de manejo de los diezmos, un factor que no siempre han tenido en cuenta los historiadores de la Economía. En particular se muestra cómo el intervencionismo del virrey ocasionó, entre 1653 y 1663, una fractura en los tradicionales procedimientos administrativos y con ello un descalabro en las finanzas de la catedral; luego, en un segundo momento, que va de 1664 a 1680, se da cuenta de una mejora en la organización interna del cabildo y de sus finanzas, debido al repliegue de la autoridad virreinal, lo que permitió a la catedral tomar plenamente a su cargo las políticas y métodos de administración del diezmo.

    This work ¿besides from illustrating briefly the decimal administrative system used by the metropolitan cathedral during the 17th century¿ sets forth the way in which different factors of the political order had direct effect on the tithe handling methods, being a factor not always considered by historians in economy. It particularly shows how the viceroy's interventionism caused (between 1653 and 1663) a fracture within the traditional administrative procedures and therefore a setback in the cathedral finances. Then, this work gives an account ¿in a second moment, from 1664 to 1680¿of an improvement in the internal organization of the metropolitan cathedral chapter as well as in its finances due to the viceregal authority retreat, which allowed the cathedral to take complete charge of the policies and methods of tithe administration.
