    La teoría del "Sonido 13" de Julián Carrillo (1875-1965) sigue siendo poco conocida por al menos dos razones: es difícil descifrar la notación numérica inventada por el compositor mexicano y su música es escasamente ejecutada. Por otro lado, el contenido de los tratados del "Sonido 13" es redundante, no faltan momentos de autoexaltación y se encuentran a veces afirmaciones discutibles. Sin embargo, a pesar de todos estos obstáculos, la importancia del "Sonido 13" es innegable. El intento de este ensayo es realizar una aproximación crítica al argumento, ponderando los aspectos más importantes de esa teoría.

    Julián Carrillo's (1875-1965) "Sonido 13" musical theory is not yet well known for at least two different reasons: it is difficult to read the number notation invented by the Mexican composer and his music is rarely played. Also, the content of the "Sonido 13" treatises is redundant, and at times there are passages that are self-exalting and questionable. However, the importance of "Sonido 13" is undeniable. This essay attempts to approach the matter critically, considering the main aspects of this theory.
