  La hidatidosis o equinococosis es una enfermedad bien conocida por el cirujano general; pero presenta dificultades diagnósticas para el cirujano buco- maxilofacial debido a que hay pocos reportes de casos en la región de cabeza y cuello. Sin embargo, en las regiones geográficas endémicas, el quiste hidatídico (QH) debe ser considerado dentro del diagnóstico diferencial de toda masa quística de partes blandas en el área maxilofacial sin un diagnóstico definido. Presentamos el caso de un paciente con una masa cervical correspondiente a un QH primario del piso de la boca sin localización hepática o pulmonar.

  Hydatidosis or echinococosis is a disease well known to the general surgeon. However, it may present diagnostic dificulties to oral and maxillofacial surgeons because a few cases have been reported in the head and neck area. However hydatic cyst should be considered in the diferential diagnosis of any cystic masses of soft tissue without a definite diagnosis in he maxillofacial region of patients living in endemic areas. We report a patient with a cervical mass with the diagnosis of a primary hydatic cyst of the floor of the mouth without hepatic or pulmonary sintomatology.
