Resumen de Niños y jóvenes aprendices, representaciones en la literatura mexicana del siglo XIX

Este artículo rescata el uso de fuentes literarias para reconstruir las representaciones e imágenes de los niños trabajadores del siglo XIX mexicano, especialmente de aquellos niños que se desempeñaron como aprendices en los talleres artesanales. La introducción del trabajo libre a principios del xix hizo que el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje en los talleres se viera deteriorado y que niños y jóvenes, lejos de aprender un oficio, se convirtieran en criados, mandaderos o sirvientes domésticos de los maestros artesanos. El texto muestra diversos mecanismos de resistencia que los aprendices establecieron para enfrentarse a las nuevas circunstancias. A través de estas líneas se propone un acercamineto a la historia de la infancia en México.

his article focuses on the use of literary sources for reconstructing the representations and images of working children of the 19th Mexican century, especially those that acted as apprentices in workshops. The introduction of free labour at the beginning of the 19th century deteriorated the teaching-learning process in the workshops. As a consequence, children and young workers were far from learning an occupation; instead they became servants and couriers. This text shows how apprentices established different resistance mechanisms to face the new circumstances. An approach to the history of childhood in Mexico is thus suggested.
