    En mayo de 1911, la renuncia de Porfirio Díaz a la presidencia como producto del triunfo de la revolución maderista abrió un periodo crucial en la historia del país. El régimen interino que sustituyó al Porfiriato tuvo como principales tareas la pacificación de la república, el restablecimiento de Ias instituciones y la organización de elecciones que permitieran la renovación de Ias autoridades y que hicieran realidad los postulados políticos de la insurrección de respeto al voto. Las elecciones que se realizaron durante el gobierno interino fueron el primer intento por organizar comicios libres durante la revolución. El balance de ese proceso fue positivo, en términos generales, aunque se siguieron presentando prácticas políticas nocivas que eran expresión del nivel que tenía la cultura política mexicana de la época.

    In May 1911, the resignment of Porfirio Díaz to the Mexican presidency as a result of the victory of the maderista revolution opened up a crucial period in the history of the country. The interim regime that substituted the Porfiriato had as main tasks the pacification of the republic, the reestablishment of the institutions and the organization of elections that allowed the renovation of the authorities, so far that they made reality the political program of the insurrection related with the free vote. The elections that were carried out during the interim government were the first intent to organize free elections during the revolution. The balance of that process was positive, in general terms, although there were continued noxious political practices that were expression of the level that had the Mexican political culture of that time.
