    • By the end of the 19th century in Mexico City becoming a modern nation, a modern state, were goals and words that appeared almost everyday in any newspaper. What this terms meant for writers and common readers the amazing progress in sciences and technology were made popular topics for the middle classes by the press, in different ways. Generally, great expectations were aroused by their real, or imaginary, potentialities, although some voices were not so confident and critical about the future. This article analizes the material published in four important journals of the capital along the year of 1900 on this subjects.
