    El hallazgo en el Archivo Histórico Provincial de León de tres notas redactadas por el erudito leonés Manuel Bravo junto con las noticias ofrecidas por el prior Luis Menéndez Valdés en 1634 y Manuel Risco en 1786 permiten responder con cierta exactitud a la cuestión de dónde permaneció el epígrafe fundacional o de consagración del templum San Miguel de Escalada desde su desaparición a finales del siglo XIX hasta, al menos, mediados del XX. Pero Escalada, como ocurrirá en otros edificios altomedievales hispanos, sufrió, además, una segunda consagración o reconsagración como consecuencia de la reforma litúrgica introducida por el monarca Alfonso VI.

    The fundational inscription of "San Miguel de Escalada" is undergoing new research due to the discovery of three documents in the Provincial Historical Archive of Leon. These documents consist of three notes written by the studious Manuel Bravo, along with some references given by the prior Luis Melendez Valdés in 1634, and Manuel Risco in 1786. The questions now are to determine the localitation of the inscription fund before its dissapearance, and to locate its exact position until the 20th century. This issue is motivated by the fact that the temple of San Miguel Escalada had two consacrations, the second one due to the reformation liturgical applied by the king Alfonso Vl.
