Queratitis por Acanthamoeba

    Se realiza una revisión de la Queratitis por Acanthamoeba, exponiendo nuestra experiencia y contrastándola con los datos existentes en la literatura.

    Presentamos un caso clínico de una paciente joven, portadora de lentes de contacto rígidas, que acude a nuestro servicio por presentar una queratitis epitelial puntiforme bilateral asimétrica. Varios días después apareció un infiltrado estromal anterior en anillo y dolor intenso.

    Se practica queratectomía lamelar bilateral, confirmándose tanto por microbiología como anatomopatológicamente el diagnóstico de queratitis por Acanthamoeba, instaurándose tratamiento específico.

    In this paper we make a review about Acanthamoeba Keratitis, presenting our own experience and contrasting it with pre-existing data from the literature.

    We review the clinical case of a young female patient, soft contact lens wearer, who attended our ophthalmology service with an asymmetric bilateral punctate epithelial keratitis. Several days later an anterior stromal annular infiltrate appeared, with severe pain.

    A bilateral lamelar keratectomy was performed, yielding a microbiological and histopathological confirmation of the diagnosis of acanthamoeba keratitis, starting specific treatment thereafter.
