Aportación para el estudio del desarrollo urbano de Logroño en los siglos XIX y XX

  • Este artículo pretende aclarar algunos aspectos de la expansión urbanística de la ciu-dad de Logroño, desde la época medieval hasta el siglo XVIII, aunque son muchas las dudas que todavía se plantean: apertura de calles, derribo de edificios, ampliación de algu-nos Conventos e Iglesias, etc. Se intenta dejar constancia de que el espacio intramuros sufrió un buen número de modificaciones, en función de las necesidades de sus habitantes. El periodo medieval es el más complicado de analizar debido a la insuficiencia de fuentes documentales y arqueológicas. En los siglos XV y XVI se produjeron 1.mportan-te.s ampliaciones en el trazado urbano dándole a Logroño el máximo de su expansión (no sería modificado hasta el siglo XIX), y en los siglos XVII y XVIII las transforma-cionesfueron md.s puntuales, teniendo gran importancia la instalación de los Conven-tos de Carmelitas, extramuros, en la zona este. = Although we are in the dark about some aspects related to the plan of new streets, the knocking down of buildings or the enlargement of churches, monasteries and nun-neries, this paper tries to clarify some aspects of the urban development of the town of Logroño, from the Middle Age to the XVIIIth Century, and to place the changes which came ouut inside de walls on record. The medieval period is the most difficult to be analysed due to the lack of archaeo-logical and written sources. Afterwards, during the XVth and the XVIth Centuries, the town was considerably enlarged, and it reached a size that wasn't hardly modified till XIXth Century. On the contrary, during theXVllth and theXVIllth Centuries, the town plan only suffered partial changes, the most important of them was the establishment outwalls, on the East, of the monastery of the Carmelite Order.
