¿Qué debe hacer un filósofo argentino?

    Se defienden las siguientes tesis: 1) los problemas filosóficos son universales; 2) no es necesario, y es muy probable que ni siquiera conveniente, que la filosofía tenga �intervención pública�; 3) cuando habla de aquello en que no es especialista, el filósofo no puede ofrecer más que sentido común, en el mejor de los casos un sentido común más o menos reflexivo e ilustrado; 4) los filósofos argentinos casi nunca discuten por escrito entre ellos (en general lo hacen con filósofos del primer mundo que, con honrosas excepciones, nunca se enteran de que han sido refutados... (Leer más) en nuestro país), pero la idea de que la causa de esta situación es que los filósofos argentinos no se ocupan de temas que interesen a sus compatriotas y que por lo tanto el tratamiento de la enfermedad debe consistir en que cambien de tema, es, por decirlo suavemente, discutible en grado sumo; 5) todo el mundo tiene derecho a estudiar el tema que se le dé la gana con independencia de la utilidad práctica o �impacto social� que puedan tener los resultados de su investigación

    The following theses are defended: 1) philosophical problems are universal; 2) it is not necessary, and it is probably not even convenient, that philosophy have �public intervention�; 3) when the philosopher talks about subject matters in which he is not a specialist the philosopher can offer no more than common-sense, in the best case a more or less reflective and enlightened common-sense; 4) Argentine philosophers almost never argue among them in print (they in general do it with philosophers of the First World who, with honorable exceptions, have never realized that they have been refuted in our country), but the idea that the cause of this... (Leer más) situation is that Argentine philosophers do not work on topics that are of interest to their compatriots and that therefore the treatment for the illness must consist in their changing the topic is, to say the least, highly disputable; 5) everyone has the right to research whatever topic he wishes independently of the practical utility or �social impact� that the results of that research might have.
