The Middle Ages are a privileged scenery for the imagery of man to develop, take pleasure and tremble at the sight of heavenly or phantomlike apparitions, invoked or appeared apparently out of nothing . Everything converges to a point in which the spirit terrorizes itself in a deep attitude of surprise and fascination . Medieval fiction has not escaped from the spell of marvel . La Leyenda del Caballero del Cisne develops its plot thanks to apparitions and effects that are not always predictable . Its papes show a variety of what can be called the Christian marvelous and what this meant to link the legendary Swan Knight with the genealogy of Godofredo de Bouillon, hero of the First Crusade.
