Dentro del mundo cortesano español, la Real Capilla es un espacio de gran importancia, no sólo por las ceremonias que en ella tienen lugar, sino también como lugar de promoción y patronazgo. El presente artículo pretende mostrar cómo en los inicios del siglo XVII y siguiendo una tradición iniciada en tiempos de Felipe II con su Capellán-Limosnero Mayor, García de Loaysa, los dirigentes de esta institución (Álvaro de Carvajal y Diego de Guzmán) utilizaron su cargo para aumentar parcelas de poder e intervenir de forma directa e indirecta en los asuntos de la corte. Mediante el análisis de documentación institucional -constituciones- y personal se certifica esta importancia, bastante olvidada en la mayoría de los estudios hechos al respecto

Inside the Spanish court, the Royal Chapel was a place of big importance, not only for the ceremonies that were held here, but also for being a place for personal promotion and patronage. This article tries to show how the leaders of the institution (Alvaro de Carvajal and Diego de Guzmán) made use of it to increase their power and took part, directly or indirectly, in the affairs of the court. The study covers the first times of 17th century following the hint of the tradition that begun in the reing of Felipe II with the royal almoner García de Loaysa.
