El autor presenta un breve análisis de la figura troyana de Hécuba en su papel ejemplar de madre, no sólo de sus hijos carnales habidos con su marido Príamo, sino también de los habidos por su marido con su anterior esposa, ya fallecida. El papel de madre, al tratarse de una reina, se extiende metafóricamente a todos los ciudadanos de Troya. Éste es el papel que Homero presenta en la Ilíada; en las tragedias de Eurípides, de las que sólo se incluye un texto, se destacan las graves consecuencias que traería la derrota militar ante los griegos.

The Trojan figure of Hecuba is briefly analysed in her exemplary role of mother, not only of her own children, that she had with her husband Priamo, but also of those that her husband had with his previous wife, already dead. Since she is a queen, the role of the mother is extended metaphorically to all citizens of Troja. This is the role that Homer presents in the Iliad. In Euripides’ tragedies, from which only one text is included, the serious consequences of the military defeat by the Greeks is highlighted.
