De la pregunta general a la recollida concreta i, d'aquí, a les conclusions transferibles

    En aquesta presentació ens plantegem reflexionar sobre l'aproximació als fets observables en un projecte de recerca en curs, centrat en les relacions entre identitat i ideologia lingüística. L'objectiu del projecte es donar resposta a la pregunta següent: Com construeixen les seves identitats multilingües en relació als discursos del nacionalisme i de la globalització joves que viuen en comunitats institucionalment bilingües com Catalunya i el País Basc i que, per tant, estan especialment exposades a aquests discursos? L'objectiu d'aquest article és el d'intentar reproduir les tensions derivades del procés de recerca pel que fa a l'enfocament qualitatiu escollit, el qual combina l'etnografia, l'anàlisi conversacional i l'anàlisi crítica del discurs.

    En el primer apartat iniciem la reflexió sobre l'enfocament de recerca contrastant dades quantitatives i dades qualitatives procedents del mateix context sociolingüístic en què es va dur a terme en la primera fase de recollida de dades del projecte. En el segon apartat presentem les opcions metodològiques adoptades en el projecte a partir de quatre paràmetres concrets. Finalment, en el tercer apartat descrivim en detall les dades del projecte i els plantejaments per analitzar-les.

    This article reflects upon the way researchers approach the observable facts that are part of the data of a research project that focuses on the relationship between identity and linguistic ideology. More specifically, the aim of the project is to answer the following research question: how do youngsters living in the institutionally bilingual communities of Catalonia and the Basque Country build up their multilingual identities in relation to the discourses of globalisation and nationalism? We will try to show the tensions that surface in any research project when it comes to deciding upon the most suitable methodology, which in the case studied resulted in the adoption of a qualitative approach that combines ethnography, conversational analysis and critical discourse analysis.

    In the first section we open the methodological reflection by comparing quantitative and qualitative data from the same sociolinguistic context, i.e. the one where the first data set for the project was collected. In section 2 we present the methodology finally chosen for the project from four specific parameters. In the last section we list in detail the data collected for the project and explain how we mean to approach their analysis.
