The author points out importance of studying the tourist phenomenon as a group of elements closely related among themselves, like a «cocktail», in which each element is important in achieving the desired result.

The «vacation insurance» constitudes one of the most important elements of the «cocktail» and yet few countries have included it in their policy.

A rapid survey is made of insurance in relation to tourism, both that which protects the Tourist Enterprises against the responsabilises they have to their clients, as well as those which protect some firms against the failure to pay of others, to wind up pointing out the need to protect and assist the tourist when he is in a foreign country, outside his normal environment and where he usually has limited means.

The Spanish Tourist Insurance was created for this purpose in 1964, when no other country had as yet dreamed of seeking a solution to the problem. At present all countries, whether they are senders or receivers of tourism, are concerned about this transcendental matter.

There is made a detailed study of the Spanish Tourist Insurance, its characteristics, its coverages, the factors which enter into it and its policy.
