Considerando el desarrollo del turismo hasta mediados del siglo XIX, se le observa, que durante todo su pasado, y en mayor o menor cuantía, fluyó sin sensibles altibajos durante el curso de cada año. El autor hace una reseña histórica del turismo en esta época fijándose en el papel culminante que jugó la era del vapor en el desarrollo de las playas y balnearios, así como las inversiones turísticas necesarias para canalizar los flujos turisticos en los destinos del continente europeo. Un periodo de intensa actividad que pone las bases de la infraestructura del turismo moderno y que se cierra con la guerra franco-prusiana de 1870.

This work concludes that published under the same title in the ¡mmediately preceding number of this magazine, ¡n whlch the development of tourism was covered from historical perspectives in certain key European countries during the years from 1850 to 1870, as the primary consequence of the railway. In this final part ¡s examined the role which was played at the culminating point of the age of steam by the beaches and spas, as well as the tourist investments needed to channel and accomodate the travelling masses which in creasing numbers visited the repertoire of tourist spots on the European continent. lt also covers the appearance of the first travel agencies, headed by that of Thomas Cook, and which laid out the facets and dynamic of the territorial spread of tourism, by inserting into a geographic framework, unchangeable for centuries, that coming from the American continent and the spread of European tourism to the Orient. A period of intense activity, which laid down the infrastructure of modern turism, which is closed by the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
