The cluster model is applicable to other economic activities besides manufacturing and in regions other than the Third Italy. In southeastern Sicily, several communes joined forces in a development project organized around tourism whose objective is sustainable development. By promoting the architectural and environmental patrimony of this zone, tourism can be enhanced and a « cultural cluster » begins to emerge.

Le modèle du district est exporté vers d’autres activités économiques que l’industrie et d’autres régions que la Troisième Italie. Dans le sud-est de la Sicile, un certain nombre de communes s’associent autour d’un projet de développement local bien particulier, articulé autour de la ressource touristique. Dans un objectif de développement durable, l’activité touristique est centrée sur la valorisation du patrimoine architectural et environnemental, qui vaut au projet le nom de « district culturel ».
