  The southern Cordovan mountains form part of the central sector of the Sub-Baetic Range, flanking the Guadalquivir fields. The landscape is physically irregular having high limy masses alternating with marl valleys and basins which feed very heterogeneous calcimorphic soil. The climate is mediterranean and somewhat "continentalized", and vegetation is xerotermomediterranean.

  The essentially agrarian human activity takes refuge on the hillsides and in the marl basins. The population was quite progresive and numerous until 1950, but has presently become regressive being very much affected by emigration. The agrarian structure is unequal, but not so much as in other Andalusian districts. Olives, the fundamental crop, is practically the exclusive product. It shows technical, economical and human problems (seasonal work stoppage). Profit is low or negative and marketing is defficient.

  Les sierras méridionales de Cordoue sont une partie du Subbétique Central et du plan de contact avec les "Campiñas" du Guadalquivir. Il s'âgit d'un relief accidenté dans lequel alternent des hauteurs calcaires avec des bassins et vallées marneuses, aux sols cacimorphes, tres héterogènes. Le climat est le Méditérrannéen avec des influences continentales, la vegétation xerothermoméditérrannéenne. L'activité humaine, essentiellement agricole, s'emploie aux versants et bassins marneux. Le peuplement, en progréssion jusqu'à 1950, est en régression, et tres affecté par l'émigration. La structure agraire bien que déséquilibrée, l'est moins qu'ailleurs en Andalousie. Mais l'Olivier, monoculture presque à l'absolu présente des problemes techniques et humains (chômage saisonnier) et économiques (basse rentabilité et mauvaise comercialisation).
