The Polje of Zafarraya, located in the southwestern portion of the province of Granada, near the boundary with the province of Malaga, was used for pasture land until the end of the 18th. century when it was converted into farmland, thus stimulating the creation of two municipalities in 1815 and 1842. Its privileged climatological conditions, yearly produce and convenient outlet for its products were causes of its developement. Today, despite the extension of irrigated land, it is experiencing a transitional phase which presents the problem of renovating the old economic structures to adapt them to the new techniques of farming and markets, and to combat the deterioration of the situation due to massive emigration.

Le Poljé de Zafarraya, au SW. de la province de Grenade, à la limite de celle de Málaga, a été utilisé comme pâturage jusqu'à la fin du XVIIIème siècle. Il fut transformé à ce moment en cultures, et de ce fait deux communes sont nées en 1815 et 1842. Des conditions climatologiques très spéciales permettent de très rentables cultures, et la possibilité de trouver des débouchés aux produits agricoles, ce qui a aidé au developpement de ces villages. Actuellement, malgré l'irrigation en train de se développer. des problèmes surgissent, et qui se sont agravés par la forte émigration. Il est nécessaire de renouveler les vieilles structures économiques afin de les adapter aux nouvelles techniques de cultures et de marchés.
