    Los Ibarra llegaron a tierras alpujarreñas a mediados del siglo XVI, en concreto como militares destinados a la fortaleza de Adra. A principios de la centuria siguiente ya se habían instalado en Berja, donde desplegaron un rápido proceso de oligarquización. Ricos hidalgos consolidados en el siglo siguiente, con la revolucionaria economía minera decimonónica esta estirpe supo adaptarse a la nueva mentalidad, constituyendo un linaje claramente aburguesado. Su influencia económica, política y social fue notable en todo el ámbito de esta localidad, conformando una de Ias genealogías más interesantes de estudiar.

    The Ibarra family set foot on The Alpujarras in the middle of the Sixteenth Century, as soldiers posted to the Adra fortress. At the beginning the following century, they had already settled in Berja, where they started a fast process of oligarchy. Rich noblemen. By the following century they had become rich noblemen, and in the Nineteenth Century, this lineage was able to adapt itself to the new mentality, joining the middle classes. Their economic, political and social influence was remarkable within the boundaries of this town, thus constituting one of the most interesting genaologies to be studied.
