    Este artículo explora el discurso de la Iglesia Católica en Barranquilla durante un período de inestabilidad política y jurídica. La lucha entre liberales y conservadores por construir una Nación de acuerdo a sus intereses ideológicos motivó a la Iglesia a plegarse ante el proyecto político que defendía y reivindicaba los principios del catolicismo romano: el conservador. Por el contrario, se fue lanza en ristre contra quienes atentaban contra la autoridad de la Iglesia: los liberales. En este contexto, la Iglesia Católica diseña en Barranquilla un sistema discursivo para contrarrestar las transgresiones sociales. El matrimonio civil, las estructuras templarias, la mujer y el arquetipo de la Sagrada Familia fueron piezas importantes dentro de este discurso. Con esto, el clero pretendía regular las prácticas cotidianas de una sociedad donde los índices de ilegitimidad y matrimonio civil fueron significativamente abultados.

    The following article explores the rhetoric of the Catholic Church in Barranquilla during a period of political and juridical instability. The struggle between Liberals and Conservatives in their attempt to build a nation according to their own ideological interests led the Church to adhere to the political project of the Conservative party since it supported and vindicated the principles of Roman Catholicism principles. Therefore, those who rejected the authority of the Church, i.e., the Liberals, were persecuted. In order to counteract social transgressions in this particular context, the Catholic Church in Barranquilla designed a new rhetorical strategy in Barranquilla. Civil marriage, Templar structures, women and the Holy Family archetype were key issues within this particular discourse. In this way, the clergy tried to regulate the daily practices of a society characterized by high levels of illegitimacy and civil marriage.
