    Este artículo se concentra en la cultura del tiempo de los novatores, es decir, entre el último cuarto del siglo XVII y el primero del siglo XVIII. A pesar de que existe ya una investigación sólida sobre los orígenes de la ciencia y la filosofía modernas, así como sobre la historiografía crítica, pretendo mostrar que existe toda una formación cultural en el período citado. Esta formación cultural no es ya barroca ni todavía ilustrada. Pero lo más importante es que se encuentran por todas partes signos inequívocos de una vida cultural mucho más rica de lo que críticos e historiadores tienden a ver o aceptar. Como resultado, ciertos ajustes son precisos a fin de inscribir la cultura del tiempo de los novatores en nuestros paradigmas historiográficos.

    This article focuses on the culture of the time of the novatores (innovators), that is, the last quarter of the 17th century and the first of the 18th century. Although some significant work has been done concerning the origins of modern science and philosophy as well as those of critical historiography, it is my intention here to argue in favour of the existence of a cultural formation, from 1675 until 1725. This cultural formation is not Baroque and is not yet Enlightened as I contend in my article. More important, it is possible to find multiple signs of a cultural life that goes far beyond what critics and historiographers are inclined either to see or to accept. As a result, some chronological problems must be dealt with in order to inscribe the culture of the time of the novatores within our historiographical patterns.
