La Exposición Universal de 1878 ha quedado parcialmente eclipsada en la historiografía debido al gran éxito de público alcanzado por otros certámenes celebrados en París antes y después de aquella fecha. Sin embargo, su trascendencia en muy distintos ámbitos fue realmente notable. En el presente artículo se hace un repaso general a sus contenidos y se estudian de forma más detallada tres contextos de especial relevancia: la "Calle de las Naciones", la sección colonial y las exposiciones de arqueología y antropología.

The Exposition Universelle of 1878 has been partially eclipsed in the historiography due to the great public success reached by others exhibitions that took place in Paris before and after that year. However, the 1878 exposition was really important. We make in this article a general revision of the contents of this exposition and we study in a more detailed way three special and outstanding contexts: the "Street of the Nations", the colonial section and the Archaeology and Anthropology expositions.
